Day 1: Team Bonding and Good Food

If I had to summarize day 1 it would be: open fields, spurts of cumulus clouds, getting to know each other (rather well), and thoroughly enjoying some non-King Hall meals.

                                                                   Fresh and ready to go!

We started driving this morning at about 0630, passed through the Maryland, Pennsylvania, (West Virginia again), and headed to Ohio to have a lovely home-cooked meal courtesy of the Sell family. There was a bit of contention over the toppings on cheesy potatoes (corn flakes or not), and whether a certain affinity for gas-station pastries should garner a call sign...lookin' at you, Big Deborah. Nevertheless, the meal was incredible--as was the family that hosted it.

The Sell family and us...we're recruiting young

Next, we continued eastward through Indiana and Illinois. The drive took us through some scenic hills and and pretty endless fields, and across the paths of a couple tractors and a horse-drawn carriage. We eventually ended up at a Cracker Barrel (truly an American Staple, and a new experience for Alex), which was as delicious as it was entertaining...

Weather-wise, we were tracking a couple storms that flared up in western Texas and southeastern New Mexico. And while there was a hint of a chance for tornadoes, none panned out. There remains a slight opportunity for some severe thunderstorms over the Central/Great Plains overnight, but the chance for tornadoes is basically zip for the evening. As for our drive, besides a couple raindrops (which was a welcome relief from the bug families we managed to take out), there was not a lot to report.

However, we remain optimistic for the rest of the trip, and specifically, the beginning of next week!

Stay tuned, and until tomorrow, weather fans!
