Day 2 in Review
The SWIFT team started the day bright and early with a tour of the 15th Operational Weather Squadron at Scott Air Force Base. The team was briefed on some of the various jobs of the squadron, and its impact on military operations across eastern North America. After touring the forecast center and learning about TAFs (Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts), among other products, the team returned to the hotel for a quick weather briefing. After viewing unfavorable conditions for severe storms in western Oklahoma, we determined that we would plan on traveling to Wichita, which would put us in an excellent position to chase storms that could develop Sunday afternoon. The team crossed the Mississippi river, drove through Missouri and arrived in Wichita in the early evening hours, enjoying an authentic barbeque dinner from The Angry Elephant. We are eager for tomorrow's atmospheric setup, which shows a potential for severe convection initiation over central Kansas and western Oklahoma.
