Day 3: A Day of Reflection

Greetings storm chasing enthusiasts and those who are related to storm chasing enthusiasts,

We are currently wrapping up day three with a quiet night in the hotel in Tulsa, OK. After another beautiful day of weather for all the wrong reasons, the SWIFT team once again found themselves faced with the decision on how to best spend a day not chasing.

Our first stop was in Joplin, Missouri, the site of an EF-5 tornado in 2011. The tornado caused catastrophic damage to the town and is remembered as one of the most deadly tornadoes in history. The team had the opportunity to visit Cunningham park, the memorial park constructed in memory of the lives lost to the natural disaster.

The team then made a lunch stop at a local burger joint and hit the road again. After checking in at a hotel in Tulsa, OK, a small outdoor excursion was planned at Turkey Mountain State Park. A much needed trail run ensued that also doubled as an off-roading mud run. I guess you could say we conquered some serious mountains.

Looking forward, we have two more professional development activities including a middle school visit tomorrow and the SPC on Tuesday.

Until then, it has been a pleasure serving as your logistics team lead for the day and I hope you have a wonderfully windy day.
