Day 4: Bulldogs, Birds, and Birthdays

Day four already?! Today was all about outreach, rest, and a very special birthday celebration.

Bulldogs

Today the team started bright and early at Wagner High School in Oklahoma. We were able to break into small groups and do some STEM activities as well as talk about Naval Academy life with some of the sophomores and juniors. We covered subjects from tornadoes (of course), to rocket design, to Fibonacci's sequence! It was a great opportunity to do some outreach and expose rising seniors to the military and to some great applications of their math and science courses.

Imparting wisdom and enthusiasm for all aspects of our USNA lives

After Wagner, we were all ready for lunch. After a few stops of fast food, and local delicacies like Krispy Krunchy Chicken, we opted for a healthier meal this time around. At Daybreak, meals ranged from omelets and fruit bowls to salads--and all were incredible. We left refreshed and ready to take on... a nap! (Hey, recovery is essential to the mission).

These plates were full for all of 2 minutes..

Birds
After some much needed shut eye, a group of us headed out for Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness for a bit of hiking and fresh air. The trails were nice, taking us by the Arkansas river and even a family of eagles! After a morning of military motivation, a bald eagle was certainly a motivating addition to the day.

If only he could be tamed and included on the SWIFT team as our mascot

Birthdays
Finally, we couldn't end the day without celebrating one of our own storm chaser's birthdays! Happy 21st Langston! He certainly had quite the day, but the real celebration took place at Shogun's, a restaurant full of laughs, hibachi, singing, cultural diversity, and ice cream.

That being said, though we didn't venture out into the ever-dynamic, ever-fascinating world of stormchasing today, we have vowed to try and get Langston a tornado for his birthday. (So if there are any suggestions on how to gift-wrap one...please email us)

Fingers crossed, and until tomorrow!
